When I have to step out for an errand, leaving my kids at home, I ask that they finish certain chores before I return. Often my youngest son gets into trouble for neglecting his chores, and he tries to hide when I come back. In today’s Gospel reading, we hear of a similar story of the master who found great satisfaction in the actions of the first and second servants, who effectively used their talents. However, the master was not happy with the third servant. We too may have been the third servant at some point of our life. Maybe some of us still tend to hide our gifts, afraid that we are not capable enough or we may be afraid to commit ourselves to the Lord. The First Reading gives us a taste of what is awaiting us, if we invest our talents like the first and second servants. We will be able to partake in the heavenly worship that is awaiting us. We need to ask ourselves “What am I doing with what God has given me? Am I using them to expand the kingdom of God?”
PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for your abundant gifts. May I use them for your glory. Amen.
