The glory of God in our midst
  • Ezekiel 1:2-5,24-28
  • Psalm 148:1-2,11-14
  • Matthew 17:22-27

The First Reading describes Ezekiel’s vision of the glory of God. Ezekiel is given a glimpse of the world beyond our understanding, and he attempts to describe an indescribable experience. While seeing the grandeur of the majesty of God through his vision, there is an important message of hope that is being manifested in this experience. God is greater and mightier than any ruler on earth and is still on the throne. When we hear of injustices and the sufferings of people, the problems and challenges in our lives, we need to remind ourselves that God is enthroned in heaven. Ezekiel, through his vision reminds us that heaven is above and beyond description, the hope to which we can hold onto in the midst of the darkness of this life. It also shows the humility and reverence with which we need to receive his message, when God manifests himself in this manner. Let us prepare ourselves to listen and pay attention with reverence to his word, for faith comes from hearing the word of God.

PRAYER: Abba Father, your presence in us is the hope of glory. Amen.
