The Lord defends us
  • Jeremiah 11: 18-20
  • Psalm 7: 2-3, 9-12
  • John 7: 40-53

Today’s readings describe what we face in life at times, when our enemies plot and plan against us. In the First reading, the prophet Jeremiah finds him self in a situation where people are conspiring against him and planning his downfall. They were going so far as to destroy his good works so that Jeremiah may be discredited and remembered no more. But God had other plans for Jeremiah. The Lord made it known to him and revealed his enemies’ scheme. Jeremiah states that the Lord judges righteously. Jesus faces a similar situation as the pharisees are plotting and conspiring against him. As we know, they eventually orchestrate Jesus’ death. God takes these opportunities where people try to harm them and use the situations for the ultimate good. This is the Lord’s promise to us, and we need not ever be anxious about anyone’s plans to destroy us or harm us because we serve a God who stands in our defense at all costs.

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for protecting and defending us from our enemies. Amen.
