Today’s Gospel reading reminds us of the value of the Kingdom, being hidden and not in plain sight, it is not obvious to us at first. We may hear about God but we do not realize how important and essential God is to our lives. After finding something hidden, then comes the joy of discovery. In this story the man is excited about finding the hidden treasure, he is willing to sell every- thing, to buy that field and find more. When we find God as our hidden treasure, it is God’s free gift to us. It is not something we can earn or buy. Whether a person is looking for God or not, we are looking for ultimate value in life. We are looking for meaning and purpose, but unfortunately for some of us, we can look in the wrong places. Let us pray that as God reveals himself to us, there will be joy and abandonment of ourselves and sin, as we unpack this treasure, by the grace he has given us. May his kingdom shine so brightly in our lives, that it would draw others to God.
