Today’s liturgy speaks of the secret of reaping a good harvest in the kingdom of God. As the readings explicitly speak of cheerful giving and how the Lord is happy and loves this quality which bestows many blessings upon the giver. This teaching recalls to us the generosity of Abel who brought forth his offering which was pleasing to the Lord (Genesis 4:2) and Cain’s offering which was rejected. Do we offer gifts cheerfully to the Lord? Are we reluctant and do it because it is obligatory?
In my life I have ample experiences where offerings made to the Lord decades ago have brought immense blessings to my life today. Let us be reminded that we are called to be generous in our sowing which in return brings blessings upon us. The Gospel reminds us to die to ourselves, to bear much fruit in our lives. Are we truly ready to serve the Lord by following Him wherever He leads us? Let us be assured that when we serve Him the heavenly Father honours and delights in us.
Prayer: Abba Father, you who have called us to be together, as a community. Lord we pray that the love between us will reflect your love to the world. Amen
