Today the church celebrates the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, who was a woman of the world searching for love in the wrong places. The first reading speaks about the longing St. Mary Magdalene would have felt in her heart before she met Jesus. The world could not offer her love that could quench her thirst. We too are like St. Mary Magdalene. We search for love from our parents, siblings, spouses, children and friends. The love we seek from others is limited. St. Mary Magdalene found the love she was longing and searching for when she came face to face with Jesus. It is only when we find God’s love that our thirst for love will be quenched. We will no longer search for love from others. The void in our hearts will be filled by his unending love. St. Mary Magdalene could not recognize the Risen Christ. When we go through storms, we too are unable to recognize Jesus. But this is when he is closest to us. He knows us and calls us by name as he called St. Mary Magdalene.
PRAYER: Abba Father, give me the grace to look for you and to live for you day and night. Amen.
