Unity in the body of Christ
  • 1 Corinthians 12:12-14,27-31
  • Psalm 100:1-5
  • Luke 7:11-17

St Paul draws a beautiful picture of the unity of the body of Christ. We are part of the body of Christ. In the body there is no question of relative importance, we must respect each other, sympathize with each other, and love each other. Have we really internalized this beautiful truth? Love supersedes all. St Ignatius of Antioch speaks of renewing ourselves in the faith in the body of Christ and in the love that is his blood. It is this love and compassion for the widow of Nain that pushes Jesus to raise the dead body of her son to life. Can we really feel the pain and suffering of others to the extent we are moved to do something about it? The cross of Christ’s passion is his invitation to you and me who are members of the body. The head cannot come to life without the members, since God the very source of unity, has foretold such a union. We are privileged to be part of this body. Love is the only thing which can bind us into perfect unity.

PRAYER: Abba Father, give us the grace to love as you love. Amen.
