Wait Patiently
  • Genesis 8: 6-13, 20-22
  • Psalm 116: 12-15, 18-19
  • Mark 8: 22-26

Jesus is so unconventional. He takes the blind man to a place where there is less noise and less chaos. He uses spit to make him well again. Ours is a patient God: he waits for us to rise to the challenge we face, responding by faith and not according to the circumstances that surround us. Jesus was patient with the blind man, so much so that he laid his hands twice before the blind man regained his sight. This teaches us that healing may not come immediately when we ask for it; that our faith needs to be a notch up for the full healing to take place. We need to be patient because the journey to healing and wholeness is just as important as the destination. There is another important sentence in the Gospel reading: “people brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him”. This is a reminder that we are called to bring to God’s presence, the people we love and care for, so they can experience the loving touch of the Lord, and be healed.

PRAYER: Abba Father, may I patiently wait for healing and restoration. Amen.
