In today’s Gospel proclamation, Jesus asks the Pharisees a question – “Is it lawful to do good or evil on the Sabbath?” The Pharisees and the rest of the Jewish communities knew that the sabbath was a day of rest commanded by God. They took that to mean that even helping someone on the Sabbath was breaking the law of God. But Jesus knew the mind of God. He thinks differently and sees things differently. Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” 1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” These two verses show us that God neither thinks like we do or loves like we do. The Lord Jesus knew the mind of God and fulfilled God’s commands even when it went against others’ ideas or expectations. As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are called to do the same. To love like God loves and to care for others like God cares for them. The Lord is calling us to seek his mind in the situations we face and act accordingly.
Prayer: Abba Father, I pray for the grace to do your will in every situation. May others see you through everything I do. Amen.
