We are the Temple of God
  • Ezekiel 47:1-2,8-9,12
  • Psalm 46:2-3,5-6,8-9
  • John 2:13-22

Today’s feast reminds us of our unity with the Pope as the successor of St. Peter. Wherever we are, we are part of that same church and it was our Lord who made this possible for us. In Ezekiel’s vision, the water streaming from the temple, reached far and beyond, making the land fertile and bringing new life. Similarly, the living water that flowed from the heart of Christ was not confined to one city alone. We are enjoying the fruits of God’s mercy that broke through physical boundaries and reached out to the peripheries. When Jesus exclaims about destroying the temple, he is proclaiming the Good News that the physical structure of a temple would cease to be the ultimate place where God is found. Through his suffering, death and resurrection he broke the barriers. Jesus has come to live in us, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Wherever Jesus is, there is the presence of God and we who hold him dear to our hearts are indeed where God dwells today.

PRAYER: Abba Father, we open our hearts to you, come and take your rightful place in us. Amen.
